So, last week I submitted a short story to my group. It’s — of course — paranormal erotic romance. Actually, it’s a story of the first Christmas for Scott and Calla from my release Dragos: Burned coming this Friday.
My critique group, those people I love so dearly, ripped it to shreds. See, here’s what I did.
I knew my opening, and my ending scene. So as I wrote it, I kept them in mind.
My group told me so.
They also told me I forgot to write the middle. My sex was great, if needed a little bit of softness and love. But they wanted to know where the middle was.
Where the plot was.
And it struck me how right they were (like usual).
I forgot to write the middle.
Oops.
Just one more of the endless reasons writers, at any stage of their writing, need a critique group.
I tip my hat, and once again say a huge THANK YOU to the 7ED
