More quotes!

I’m totally up in Happy Jack (someplace north of Payson in AZ) writing my heart out in a cabin with my writer’s. I did this last year and I’ll say the same thing that I learned then and know now: Sometimes, you just gotta get out of the house away from family and friends, away from TV and the internet, and, as a writer, just write. Write until your wrists hurt, stop only to read a book, eat, get some fresh air, then write some more. Devote all your time to it, and you’ll be surprised, and prideful, of how much you can get done.
But since we already learned this lesson, let’s take a look at some more quotes that really got my creative mind moving, especially in the direction of character creation.

1:”I believe that most religions are based on a mixture of truth and fantasy, hope and fear.”

Says the atheist who challenges her friend’s beliefs. And how true is this? We once feared thunder, for it brought powerful lightening that could destroy and burn, but could also signal an oncoming and much-needed rain. So people worshiped Thor.

2: “Remember, you are not here because you are better than those who are not, but because you are better than who you were.”

Says the warrior speaking to his younger companion as we’ve seen him grow.

3: “The portal to hell is opened with the incantation of good intentions.”

And how true! Remember nuclear energy. Infinite, clean, abundant, and yet a power that can be turned into one of the greatest horrors on the face of this Earth.

And finally my two favorites:

“Selfishness tells us that is more important for us to have, to get and to not suffer, than it is for anyone else.”

This contrasting generosity, and the epitome of it.

“Sacrifice demands you put at risk what you hold precious. To do so even when another might be willing to instead. Especially then, so no other has to.”

A true friend who will do anything for his companions. The element of Sacrifice is the mark of a true ally.

These quotes I’ve found through reading books. Sorry if I don’t give credit where credit is due; in the heat of the story I tend to jot the quote down and move right along.
