Look who I found…@JDTylerAuthor and she brought #ALPHAPACK Friends! #pararom #shifters #HuntersHeart #giveaway

Welcome to a special post, my lovely Swamp Visitors. We almost lost this one, what with her dodging Willie Wispie and friends, then she had to out run Eerie’s free range Zombie herd (which has somehow grown in numbers), but never let it be said that we don’t do our best to ensure our guests make it out alive.

Today the talented, award-winning, multi-published author of the sexy and dark paranormal romance series, The Alpha Pack, J.D. Tyler shares an exclusive interview with Ryon Hunter and his fellow Pack Mates.  There’s something to be said for a bunch of Nay SEALs who just happen to grow claws and fur that really gets to me…

Her fourth book, A HUNTER’S HEART is available now and before we begin, here’s a small peek:

Exclusive Interview: Ryon Hunter And The Alpha Pack

When I requested this interview with Ryon and The Alpha Pack, the guys weren’t sure whether they could take the time to sit down and talk. They’re really busy these days fighting all the dangerous things that stalk the night, and there’s a new problem on the horizon for our brave heroes. But they graciously agreed to take a few moments to give us an update on what’s been going on their world and satisfy our curiosity.

We’re sitting in the Pack’s recreation room because it’s more comfortable, and the guys are lounging around, waiting for me to begin. The room quiets, and I have to admit, being the focus of so many scorchingly sexy, strong men has me shaking in my boots. I try not to show my nervousness as I soldier on.

Nick Westfall (Alpha Pack Commander/white wolf/Seer): Can I get you something to drink?

JD: Oh no, I’m fine! Don’t go to any trouble—

Nick: Micah, get JD a soda or something.

Micah Chase (brown wolf/Dreamwalker): Sure thing, boss.

He flashes a smile at me, which pulls some at his scarred face, and rushes off. I turn to Nick.

JD: Thank you. And thanks to all of you for agreeing to take time from your busy schedule to talk with me. (I shuffle my notes) I know you guys have been through some rough situations in the past few months. Why don’t we start with what recently happened to Ryon and his new mate?

Nick (nodding to Ryon Hunter): I think Ryon’s the best source for that story.

I turn my attention to Ryon, and try not to ogle the man—but it’s not easy. Like all of them he’s stunning, but his looks are totally different from his teammates. His hair is blond and sort of shaggy, his eyes crystal blue. He has an “honest” face, one of those All-American mugs that screams apple pie and pro football. And I soon discover that he’s a sweet man with a ton of integrity—and one who loves his mate very much.

JD: Ryon, it’s great to finally meet you in person.  (His beautiful smile about knocks me off the sofa)

Ryon: Same here. What would you like to know? But keep in mind some of the story is still classified info—sorry about that.

JD: No worries, just tell me what you can. First, how did you meet your mate, Daria Bradford?

Ryon (face softening with obvious love): That’s an easy one. I’d been with the team in New York hunting a group of rogue vampires. We found them and in the fight, I got pinned by one of them.

Aric Savage: Yep. Pretty boy nearly got his throat ripped out. Would have if it hadn’t been for us.

Ryon (shooting the redhead an annoyed look): Anyway, they rushed me home to the compound and I had to spend some time in the infirmary. While I was recovering, this gorgeous spirit with long black hair visited my bedside. She needed help, but I didn’t think I could help her, you know?

JD (nodding): Your gift is a Channeler/Telepath allows you to speak with the dead—but many times you aren’t able to help them because they can’t communicate with you clearly, correct?

Ryon: That’s right. But with Daria’s spirit, it was different. She told me she was alive, and I knew right away that I had to get to her, fast. She wasn’t a ghost at all, but was using a Psy gift called astral projection to reach out to me. I rallied the team and we found her just in time, lying in a ravine. She was near death, and I had to do something extreme to save her life. I thought she’d never forgive me for that one, but she has a huge heart.

JD: Can you talk about what you did?

Ryon: Not yet. Let’s just say she and I worked through it. But that was the least of our problems, considering what came next.

Micah returns with my soda, and I thank him, taking a sip.

JD: You’re referring to the monster in the Shoshone that was killing campers and hikers?

Ryon (expression grim): Yeah.

JD: What can you tell me about that? What—or who—was this creature and how did he come to be in your neck of the woods?

Ryon: I’m not allowed to discuss specifics, but I can tell you that this was one of the most dangerous and heartbreaking cases we’ve ever worked. What happened to this creature wasn’t his fault, believe it or not. We solved that case the only way we knew how, and I think it worked out all right for everyone in the end.

JD: Except you were nearly killed in that battle…

Ryon: That’s the risk that comes with the job.

JD: Unfortunately, yes. And during your mission, you and Daria learned something important about the origins of the Alpha Pack, correct?

Ryon: Yes. But I can’t reveal that information yet, sorry.

JD: No problem. Let’s go back to an issue you already mention—the rogue vampires. I get the impression this is a recent development?

Ryon: That’s right. We’ve been called out in the past to deal with rogue vamps, but it’s always been a light problem, until now. It takes centuries for a vamp to turn rogue, and normally there aren’t many. But for some reason they’re everywhere lately.

Nick: We don’t know where the problem is stemming from, but we’re working on finding out. In the meantime, I’ve put in a call for assistance from the vampire’s leader, Prince Tarron Romanoff.

Jaxon Law (grey wolf/RetroCog/Timebender): The arrogant jackass. (snorting)

Zander Cole (black wolf/Healer), who lost his hearing after an explosion a few months back, has been doing his best to read lips. He agrees with Jax about the vampire prince.

Zander: True that.

Nick: Be that as it may, we need Tarron’s help or we’re soon going to be overrun by rogues. If that happens…

The commander leaves that thought unfinished, but the Pack agrees with mumbled curses. I know there isn’t much more they can tell me on that subject, so I decide to finish the interview on a positive note, addressing Ryon again.

JD: So, tell me about Daria? She seems amazing.

Ryon (beaming): She’s the most wonderful woman in the world, and I’ve been blessed to have her as my mate. She’s not just beautiful, but kind, smart, and funny. Her passion is studying wolves in the wild, real ones, which is sort of ironic.

JD (smiling): So I take it your mating is happy now?

Ryon: We had a lot of stuff to work through, but yes. She’s made me the happiest man on earth.

Aric (wrinkling his nose): Barf, gag.

Ryon: Shut up, asswipe. Like you’re not seriously whipped after mating with Rowan!

Aric: Yeah, well…

JD (laughing at their antics): Nick, thank you for giving up a few minutes to give an update on what’s been going on with the Pack. Ryon, I’m so glad everything worked out for you, and I’m sure our readers will love your story.

Ryon (winking): Thank you, sweetheart. Who doesn’t love a happy ending?

Kalen Black (black panther/Sorcerer/Necromancer): On that note, what do you say we all go get something to eat? I’m starved! JD?

JD: Sounds great, lead the way!

And so, I got to spend the entire afternoon soaking up the welcome attentions of a Pack full of sexy shifters. I guess that makes me, literally, one lucky bitch.

Happy reading!

JD Tyler

J.D. Tyler is an award-winning, multi-published author who writes for New American Library under three pseudonyms. Whether this is due to an overdose of ambition or a multiple personality affliction, she’ll never tell.

J.D. writes dark, sexy paranormal romance and has a huge thing for shifters, vampires, the Fae, and just about everything else that goes bump and grind in the night. She can’t get enough of those dangerous supernatural heroes, and the fun of creating her own was just too much temptation to resist… so she didn’t. J.D. doesn’t do self-denial.

When she isn’t writing, J.D.’s idea of a good time certainly isn’t cleaning house (sniff), bungee jumping (not in this lifetime, or the next), or camping (her idea of “roughing it” is a slow bellboy). She enjoys reading, being pampered like the diva she is, and spending time with her awesome family. She lives in Texas with her two teenagers.

Award Winning @ElleKennedy Stops by the Swamp to share some #KILLERINSTINCTS! #romance #romsus #MIDNIGHTGAMES

Gather round, gather round my lovely and odorous Swamp Followers for today we are being honored by the RITA-award nominated, ELLE KENNEDY for our questioning delight. Normally, we’d waylay her on her way past the Swamp, but I had to tread a bit more carefully, she has some very dangerously wicked friends.  Take a peek after our questions and check our her newly released third book in her Killer Instinct series, MIDNIGHT GAMES.  I highly, highly recommend this read as it’s carving its way through my Kindle as we speak. We have to work fast, because she’s slippery, is our Elle, so before she escapes, come join the fun!

Many writers have that first novel which will never see the light of day. Out of curiosity, do you have one stashed somewhere?  Inquiring minds want to know: what was your first attempt at writing and how old were you?

I have many unpublished novels stashed somewhere, but I think I have three official “first” attempts. Sounds strange, but since they were all written at drastically different points of my life, I consider them all first attempts. I wrote my first book when I was twelve—it was a middle-school somewhat-romance title, like the Sweet Valley Twins series. It was 90 pages, and pretty damn good for a twelve-year-old, if I say so myself. Clearly it never sold, because at twelve, I had no clue that you needed to submit books to a publisher. I figured they just magically appeared on bookshelves.

My second first book was written when I was seventeen. I had other random books written between 12-17, but I consider this one a first because it was the one I started submitting to agents (this one was more like Sweet Valley High as opposed to Twins lol). Unfortunately, it didn’t land me an agent, but I did get some wonderful feedback from everyone who read the first three chapters.

And my official first book, I wrote when I was twenty. It was a submission to the Harlequin Temptation line, and the editor actually requested to read the full manuscript. The book didn’t end up selling, but I still think fondly of it when I’m remembering my early writing days.

–I have one of those, more along the lines of 125 pages handwritten sounding a great deal like THE DARK IS RISING meets TRIXIE BELDEN…ahh, being young, when writer’s cramp wasn’t a consideration!

What’s some of the funniest/sweetest/strangest things you’ve heard from your readers?

I get a lot of sweet emails from readers, usually letting me know how much they’ve enjoyed a particular book, or demanding to know when a certain title will be released. I can’t think of any standout funny ones, but there have definitely been some strange ones. A male reader wrote to tell me about his sex life with his wife, and then asked for “tips.” Oh, and one time, a female reader wanted to know what I had against “double penetration” (??? I’m pretty sure that at least two of my erotic titles have featured DP scenes LOL) So, yes, sometimes the messages that show up in my inbox are total head-scratchers!

–kudos to you for, umm…handling?…such requests, I think I would spend a lot of time just blinking and trying think of helpful tips…

What’s the one genre you won’t ever try and why?

Paranormal romance, specifically shapeshifter romances. I read some paranormal—JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series is in my top 3 of all-time favorite romance series. So I’m okay with vampires. But shapeshifters…Gosh, I don’t know. I just don’t see the appeal. Maybe it’s because I’m both a dog and cat owner, so I can’t imagine one of them transforming into a really sexy man, or finding a man sexy knowing that sometimes he turns into a wolf or something.

If my publisher asked me to write a shapeshifter romance, I wouldn’t be able to do it. My confusion and dislike for the genre would come across in my writing, and I don’t think anyone would enjoy the final product.

–it’s okay, Elle, I really like your alpha heroes, they don’t always have to turn furry!

What is some of the best advice you were ever given?

Don’t let one rejection stop you from trying again, and make sure to develop a thick skin. Trust me, that thick skin is a MUST if you want a career in writing, and you don’t just need it for the submission/rejection process. Because even after you sell, you’re still going to face obstacles, whether it’s editors making you cut scenes you slaved over, or critique partners telling you they didn’t like something, or readers and reviewers announcing that they hated, hated, hated your book!

–Thick skin…yep, I’ve been trying out this new lotion that’s suppose to toughen you up, but man, it takes time to develop!

Before she runs off into another hair raising adventure, let’s shoot Elle some of our favorite questions….ready? Go!

Meet #Romance author @NanaPrah visits w/ @JamiGrayAuthor, bringing her #debutnovel LOVE THROUGH TIME!

Greetings, my lovely Swamp peeps, today I have the pleasure of hosting the adorable Nana Prah, fellow Black Opal author, and sneaking a peek at her debut romance novel, LOVE THROUGH TIME.

As always, leave your weapons at the door, try not to shed any blood as you take a seat (I just washed the floors), and give us your undivided adoration….Smokey made some lovely finger foods.  I don’t think they’re actually from Eerie’s Free Range Zombies, but you never know.  I can guarantee they’ll be delicious though.

Everyone have a seat? Yes? Good, good.  Okay, Snarky, lock the door.  Without further ado, my lovely Pagies (yes, I made this up, think foodies, but with pages!), may I present: NANA PRAH….

If your character(s) came with a warning label, what would it say?

Warning on the heroine, Jasmine: I have a very low nonsense threshold level, so unless you want a fantastic ass kicking, I’d behave myself if I were you. But if I do happen to stomp you down, I’ll be sure to heal you afterwards, because I’m an awesome nurse.

–hmmm, sounds oh so familiar…low patience level, no nonsense, kicking much ass, yes I do believe I know someone just like that!

Personally, I tend to be a bit on the introverted side so the thought of being in the actual presence of one of my favorite writers makes my heart race, my knees shake and tangles my tongue (yes classic fan girl behavior).  Who could reduce you to such a level and how do you imagine your initial meeting?

I love, love, love Dorothy Koomson.  At our initial meeting I’d fall down prostrate at her feet, of course she’s turn and run, and I’d dash after her screaming, “Wait, I’m not crazy. Well maybe a little, but it’s the creative kind. I love your books.”  Once she stood protected behind a police officer, she’d turn and recognize that I’m a fellow writer and a huge fan of hers, and then we’d have a wonderful chat.

–crazy is completely in the eye of the beholder, or the one buckling the straight jacket…

What’s the one genre you won’t ever try and why?

I’m staying away from horror. I have no intention of ever frightening the crap out of anyone with my writing. Plus in the midst of my writing I’d probably end up scaring myself sleepless and that does not sound like fun.

—Eerie, back off, she doesn’t want to see your collection of severed tongues…no, not the shrunken heads either…

As children we tend to have an idea of what we want to be by the time we’re ten.  Before you decided to pursue the artistic dream of being a writer, what did you want to be and why?

I wanted to be whatever I read or saw (I was a pretty fickle kid). An astronaut, a clown, a tap dancer, an accountant (that one was the weirdest), a member of the  A Team, a chef (I lost that dream when I learned that I don’t actually like to cook). You name it and I wanted to be it. Everything except a nurse, teacher, or a writer- all of which I have become. Life sure is funny.

 –A Team, weird? NEVER!

Share one uniquely strange experience you’ve had that remains crystal clear to this day.

Experiences of de ja vu so intense that I predict what’s going to happen next, and I’m correct. It doesn’t happen often, but it freaks me out every time.

–You’re not the first guest we’ve had that’s mentioned this one. Writers plus deja vu, I wonder….

Now for our BULLET LIST…Nana’s off and running…can you keep up?

Blades, guns, fists or feet?

I’m a martial artist, I’ll take all four of those bad boys, I know their value.

–Woman after my own heart…

Favorite Fairy Tale of all time?

Mulan (not sure if it’s a fairy tale, but I don’t care). That girl did the rescuing, no damsel in distress there. Plus I fell in love with the captain.

—Bad guys, good guys, kick ass female, magical creatures, we’ll consider it a Fairy Tale!

Three titles and their authors sitting on your nightstand/bookcase/table/floor waiting to be read?

I hope you appreciate how difficult this is for me.

My computer holds Shadow’s Edge by the fabulous Jami Gray

On my Kindle: His Princess (Men of Valor) by Kiru Taye and The Woman He Loved Before by Dorothy Koomson

–awww, now you have me blushing….

Greatest one liner of all time?

“Just remember that I’m an artist, and I’m sensitive about my s^*t.” Erica Badu, Live.

–succinctly put!

Sarcastic witticism, Southern sweetness or Geeky disdain?

Sarcastic witticism- I’m trying to cut down, but I can never remember why, it’s so much fun.

–Cut down? Blasphemy, Nana! More, you must use more!

Strangest item currently taking up space in your writing cave?

A bottle of Listerine. Don’t ask me why it’s not in the bathroom.

–ummm, have hubby or kiddos, that’s generally a good enough explanation for me!

Favorite supernatural creature?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, she’s not a creature, but she is supernatural.

–Buffy is always welcomed, along with Spike, Angel and the Winchester brothers….

LOVE THROUGH TIME..coming to shelves near you!

Love Through Time Cover

Defending her family – no problem. Recalling past lives – maybe just a small problem. Taking a chance on love again – well…

Come meet @TrishMcCallan, mistress of high octane #RomanticSuspense, plus double #RITA Finalist #REDHOTSeals

Now that I’ve got your pulse racing, how about I keep your excitement level elevated? Take a breath, grab a swig from your water bottle, and let’s keep going.

A few months back I ran across a title in the Amazon lending library that caught my eye.  Not only was the cover an attention grabber, but the blurb…military heroes, psychic abilities, murder, romance…who am I turn away from that lovely temptation? I picked up FORGED IN FIRE and devoured it in one sitting.  Upon completion of the novel, I went through withdrawal and desperately wanted another fix.  Instead I found I’d have to try my patience for the next title, FORGED IN ASH.

Fine then.  Pouty but not deterred, I decided to track down the creative mind behind the books and drag her into the Swamp, where she would be forced…err, emm, encouraged, to answer a few questions. Mission accomplished.

Born in Eugene, Oregon, and growing up in Washington State, Trish McCallan is not so out of place in our land of water and trees! She began crafting stories at an early age. Her first books were illustrated in crayon, bound with red yarn, and sold for a nickel at her lemonade stand. Trish earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature with a concentration in Creative Writing from Western Washington University, taking jobs as a bookkeeper and human- resource specialist before finally quitting her day job to write full time.

TrishMccallan
Forged in Fire, the first book in her Red Hot SEALs series, came about after a marathon reading session, and a bottle of Nyquil that sparked a vivid dream. She lives today in eastern Washington. An avid animal lover, she currently shares her home with four golden retrievers, a black lab mix and two cats.

Without further ado, I give you TRISH MCCALLAN!

If you were to hold a dinner party for six, who would you invite and share at least one question you would have for each? Your guests don’t have to be alive and if you really want to make it fun, you can use favorite fictional characters.

The first person I’d invite would be God. And I’d ask him just how much truth there is to the Bible and ask him to do an update/revision.

The next person I’d invite would be Jesus Christ, and I’d ask him what he thought of Jesus Christ Superstar—and what his lyrics would have been if he’d written the rock opera.

I’d invite the writers of Lost and I’d ask them: They were DEAD!!?!?!?!? What the HELL were you thinking?!?!?!?!?!

I’d invite my mom, and ask her if she found her family in heaven like she was so certain she would.

I’d invite Marc  Chastain from Linda Howard’s Kill and Tell and ask him to leave his heroine (can’t remember her name) for me, because I am so much better suited for him. =0)

I’d invite the lead singer from Nickelback and ask for a personal performance. O-o

–I may have to crash your dinner party, Trish, not just for the guest list, but hey, it’s Nickleback…

As children we tend to have an idea of what we want to be by the time we’re ten.  Before you decided to pursue the artistic dream of being a writer, what did you want to be and why?

I’ve wanted to be a writer since I could hold a crayon. However, I also wanted to study whales, so I tried to major in marine biology in college. I made it through two years of biology before I hit the chemistry stuff which totally derailed me and I switched my major to English Lit and writing.

–I’m all for science so long as it’s something I can twist to my own uses =0)

Personally, I tend to be a bit on the introverted side so the thought of being in the actual presence of one of my favorite writers makes my heart race, my knees shake and tangles my tongue (yes classic fan girl behavior).  Who could reduce you to such a level and how do you imagine your initial meeting?

Linda Howard and JR Ward. I was really hoping to meet at least one of them at the RWA nationals this past July. I knew Linda Howard was there so I looked and looked and looked for her, but she must have been hiding from me. LOL I would like to imagine I’d be coherent and collected if I did happen to meet either of them, but mostly likely they wouldn’t be able to understand a word I was stammering, or blurting, or blubbering.

–They’re on my “to meet” list, too, but I think I’d have to send up a proxy, otherwise I may just drool and blubber…

Many writers have that first novel which will never see the light of day. Out of curiosity, do you have one stashed somewhere?  Inquiring minds want to know: what was  your first attempt at writing and how old were you?

I’d written dozens of children’s books before I turned ten. From ten until twenty I wrote animal stories: rip offs of The Incredible Journey, and The Black Stallion and Lassie. I wrote my first romance novel my second year of college. I finished it by hand writing two hours a day in spiral notebooks. I never revised it; instead it ended up forgotten in a drawer. The first book I actually wrote and revised and submitted was after I graduated from college. I sent it out ONCE, and gave up when it was rejected for one dimensional characterization. That one’s in a drawer somewhere too. Both those early books need to remain hidden. I had no idea what I was doing.

–yeah, I’ve talked to a lot, I mean A LOT, of writers who’ve hidden those first books.  Think what would happen if we did a blooper reel–or book.  Mine would be entitled, THE EYES HAVE IT, since there’s eyes EVERYWHERE! I should’ve just named them….

Share one uniquely strange experience you’ve had that remains crystal clear to this day.

I’ve had two dreams that came true the next day. The dreams weren’t anything awful, they were little things- like a family member visiting out of the blue that we hadn’t seen in years. And one of our exchange students getting attacked by bees and stung multiple times on a nature hike.

–wow! I think our minds are a bit more powerful that we can even imagine!

What’s some of the funniest/sweetest/strangest things you’ve heard from your readers?

The sweetest thing was someone who drove 3 hours to get a book signed and have a picture taken with me. She also brought me a plate of cookies and tried to bribe storyline and character love interest for the subsequent books. And yeah, it worked. =0)  She has the skinny on everything. Those cookies went to my brain.

–*taking notes* get someone else to make cookies to bribe Trish…she wouldn’t survive mine….

What is the best advice you can share with others?

To listen to advice, but go with your instincts. Often what worked for one person, won’t work for another. We all have our own path and our own processes. So listen to what people say, but go with what your gut is telling you. Most the time our gut is right.

–I like that, there is so much information out there for any writer, it can be intimidating and disheartening…

Time for our bullet questions…ready, aim, fire!

Blades, guns, fists or feet?

It depends, if we’re talking about my heroes—it’s guns, blades AND fists. If we’re talking about my heroines, it’s common sense and feet. If you’re asking about me- It’s out smart and hide, because I can’t run very fast. =0)

–I’ve learned you just have to be faster than the one behind you ;0)

Favorite Fairy Tale of all time?

I’ve never been into fairy tales, so don’t have a favorite.

Three titles and their authors sitting on your nightstand/bookcase/table/floor waiting to be read?

JR Ward’s Lover Reborn and Lover at Last, Running Wild by Linda Howard and Linda Jones,  And The Last Policeman by Ben Winters.

–Love Ward’s books, and Howard is a must read for any romantic suspense lover….

Greatest one liner of all time?

From Linda Howard’s The perfect man. “Anything over seven inches is just showing off.” And yes, they are talking about what you think they are talking about. =0)

–*giggle* I like that!

Sarcastic witticism, Southern sweetness or Geeky disdain?

Neither actually, what about geeky humor. LOL That fits me better.

–We can accept geeky humor, I should probably add that as a choice!

Strangest item currently taking up space in your writing cave?

Nothing, sadly—my writing cave is the epitome of boring office crap.

Favorite supernatural creature?

Shapeshifters—only one that can shift into any animal, not one that’s only capable of shifting into one species.

–I get it, let’s be honest, if you start shifting into any animal, how do you remember who you are?

Thank you, Trish for visiting.  Now, my lovely Swamp followers, do you want more?

Time to dip your toes into something steamy and meet #Erotica author @kallypsomasters! #giveaway #romance #rescueme

Welcome back my loyal Swamp followers. Did you all make it through the whirlwind of new authors and add layers to your To Be Read piles?

You did? Great!

We’re not quite done yet, my friends. Today we have to leave the kids with Dreamer to take some well deserved Adult Time and walk the edge of our desires with the wonderfully lovely and fantastic Erotica author, Kallypso Masters.  We managed to waylay her on  her way to Authors After Dark where she and some of our past guests like Jennifer Estep, and Lynn Rush will all be appearing! If you can make it, you MUST GO!

Now I realize we’re stepping outside our comfort zone a bit here, but what’s life without a few heart-pounding moments?  Besides, for those who haven’t tried this particular genre, Kally’s Rescue Me series is a great introduction. Her characters are so real they’ll reach out, rope you into their world and make it so you don’t ever want to leave.

Without further ado, I present Kallypso Masters!

Thanks so much for having me here, Jami and friends! I am knee-deep in alligators right now and love to answer questions, so I opted to choose some of your very unique questions and answer them, hoping to reveal something new to some of my long-term fans, as well as have some new readers discover me and my books.

If your character(s) came with a warning label, what would it say?

Wounded, but not broken.

—and oh so real, I have to add!

If you turned your laptop/computer/pen/typewriter (yes, some of still use these!) over to your character(s), how would they describe you?

IF I turned it over? Master Adam has often commandeered my keyboard. One of my favorite times was when he came to speak to my readers about how to survive the holidays about the time his book, Nobody’s Hero, was released, Christmas 2011. (Read Master Adam’s message here!)

Hmmm, I think Adam would say…

Oh, Sir. Good morning! Um, yes, Sir. You most certainly can have the keyboard.

*Kally gets up to get dressed for breakfast*

Adam here. You want to know what I’d say about Kally? She doesn’t realize what a great talent she has at capturing stories, even from the most reluctant people, like Marc and me, and getting at what makes them tick. She doesn’t write sugary-sweet fantasy romances with gazillionaires and virgins. Okay, sometimes she tells a virgin’s story, well, she was a virgin until… Anyway, Kally focuses on true-to-life people and tells it like it is for so many of my brothers and sisters who have served their country. We aren’t rich. We’re sometimes fucked up. But she can make even the most fucked up of them all, me, come across as a hero, which takes a lot of talent and perseverance.

I appreciate how she spends hours and hours talking with and writing to people in the lifestyle and in the military to make sure she gets her facts straight. And that she won’t release a book early for a quick buck. When you get the book, you know she’s satisfied with it, which can take some doing. Yeah, sometimes she can overthink things and needs to learn to trust when she’s nailed the story, even with its imperfections, and let it go. But her attention to detail and that she brings in a team of people to help make her books the best they can be, are both admirable. I’ve learned in the Corps and beyond that none of us can do it alone.

And Kally genuinely cares about her readers, her family, and those who have been sucker-punched by life, as many of you already know. She keeps many of her engagements with readers private, but enough comes out when readers share with others that you know she cares. One of my Navy brothers and a fellow rope enthusiast, Kinbaku Gardener, recently described her in her discussion group on Facebook as “the salt of the earth,” and I think that pretty much sums Kally up. No pretense, no filters—just a woman who’s got her own healing to do, but wants to share that journey with others and help them get there, too. When you meet her face to face for the first time, you know you’ve found a new friend.

—*politely nodding* I have to agree since I found myself sharing things with her, I hadn’t shared with very many…

Personally, I tend to be a bit on the introverted side so the thought of being in the actual presence of one of my favorite writers makes my heart race, my knees shake and tangles my tongue (yes classic fan girl behavior).  Who could reduce you to such a level and how do you imagine your initial meeting?

Well, once upon a time, it would have been Cherise Sinclair. Hers was my first erotic romance and first BDSM romance I ever read, and I followed her for a couple years before deciding to pursue writing in this genre myself. Imagine my reaction when she e-mailed me a couple months before my first book came out (after I’d engaged with her on Facebook for only a few weeks) and she said, “I can’t wait to read your book.” I totally screamed out loud (and, yes, my heart raced, I was tongue-tied, and my knees shook).

I’ve been fortunate to have met her twice now. The first time was at my hotel in San Francisco last year when she picked me up to go to a BDSM club for a lecture. I was nervous, but she put me at ease right away. I think she may have even been more nervous than I was, but she’s not as extroverted as I am. This past May (a year after our first encounter), she and I shared a room while attending a leather celebration for research. I now consider my idol a friend. But I still idolize her books!

–I love Cherise’s books! I discovered hers after yours.

Many writers have that first novel which will never see the light of day. Out of curiosity, do you have one stashed somewhere?  Inquiring minds want to know: what was your first attempt at writing and how old were you?

I have at least 8 full or partial manuscripts that I kept and that are stashed away, including a short story from high school. The first thing I ever sold was a short story I wrote as a sophomore and sold to my 8th-grader sister for her English class. The teacher wanted to submit it to an anthology, but she quickly got shy and said, “Oh, no. I don’t want to do that!” She never confessed that it wasn’t her work. (I think I made $2.50—sure beat what I got for babysitting and dish washing at the time.) Most of these 8 manuscripts will remain hidden, although I did pull one out and sent it to one of my editors who lives the lifestyle and asked her to just beta read (not edit) it and tell me if it could be salvaged as a stand-alone novella or short novel. But I’d only put it out if it was of the same quality as the Rescue Me books—and I’m not sure that could be achieved without a lot of work. I don’t want to waste time fixing old books. I want to keep writing new ones using the skills I’ve learned in the process of writing new books.

–I’m with you, some of my older ideas are fun, but the amount of work and revamping required *shudder*, yea no, I think I’ll pass…

Whether we’re plotters or pantsers (outlines not needed), creating our stories takes us on very memorable journeys.  Sometimes we may be part way through before we realize some major aspect of our story is just not working (plot, character, setting).  Have you ever hit this sharp, pointy snag and if so, how did you escape? We’re you battered and bruised or a bloody mess?

I’m a pantser of the truest sense. (And in English classes in high school and college, I always wrote the outline after the paper.) To me, writing a book to an outline would just be too boring. I love the surprises and blindsides my characters present me with as I write. Usually I discover things just the way my readers do—as the story unfolds.

The one that left me most bloodied (SPOILER ALERT!!!) was in Nobody’s Angel. I’d written the book two years before, then decided to join the indie publishing revolution and publish it. It needed a lot of work and my editors helped me fix the original version—twice. Then Master Marc came to me one morning three weeks before the book was to be published and said, “I don’t want to share anymore.” Um, but Sir, this is a ménage and you ALWAYS shared before. “Angelina’s different. Mine.” So, I had three weeks to dump 55,000 words and write 85,000 new ones, only keeping about 35,000 words of the original. I kept the story in tact up to the sofa scene. (Good thing—that’s a fan-favorite threesome scene). But it was there that Marc began to realize Angelina was unlike any woman before her. She was truly THE ONE.

Mind you, I still have issues with this book—and Marc—but I hope readers will understand that he is very much a work in progress. I discovered (another BAM moment) why Marc is the way he is while writing Nobody’s Perfect. At that point, I realized he needed (and was finally ready) for a book to help him face things that have shaped who he is, but that did so on a subconscious level. I think that mirrors real life. We having coping mechanisms born of past hurts, and continue to screw up without understanding why, until it no longer works for us and we make a conscious decision to change our behaviors if we don’t want to remain lonely and disconnected from others, as Marc has been his entire life. I think after the revelations about Marc in the upcoming Somebody’s Angel (Rescue Me #5, due out in September) readers will be able to connect with Marc in a new way. I know he surprised me—yet again.

–*trying not to jump up and down in excitement* I soooo can’t wait for Somebody’s Angel…

Now for everyone’s favorite! Our bullet list, ready…set…go!

  • Blades, guns, fists or feet?

Feet (as in feet running away—I’m not very confrontational)

  • Favorite Fairy Tale of all time?

Sleeping Beauty—because so many of us remain asleep most of our lives, until that one special person wakes us up. For some of us, it’s a true love who awakens us. For others, it’s a friend, even a book, that gets us to see ourselves and our lives in a new way. But I also love how the fairies and other forces in Sleeping Beauty help the awakening along. We can’t always get through life alone.

  •  Three titles and their authors sitting on your nightstand/bookcase/table/floor waiting to be read?

Most of my print books now are research ones. “Screw the Roses, Send Me the Thorns” is on my nightstand—research for BDSM elements in my books. “Courage After Fire: Coping Strategies for Troops Returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and Their Families” is on my desk. And I can’t give you the third title, because it would give away an important secret from Somebody’s Angel that I want readers to discover on their own.

  • Greatest one liner of all time?

“Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.” (Second favorite of mine—“What the fuck are you doing in my bed?” *Snark*)

  • Sarcastic witticism, Southern sweetness or Geeky disdain?

Sarcastic witticism

  • Strangest item currently taking up space in your writing cave?

Just found my son’s sketchbook on the desk I recently commandeered as my own. Um, he is quite talented at capturing sensual nudes, but seeing the use of the Triskelion (BDSM) emblem in a couple of the sketches. I guess that explains the police-grade handcuffs we found under the bed after he moved out.

  • Favorite supernatural creature?

Unicorns—so graceful, but able to get their point across when need be.

–Nicely put!

USA Today bestselling author Kallypso Masters writes emotional, realistic Romance novels with dominant men and the women who bring them to their knees. She also has brought many readers to their knees—having them experience the stories right along with her characters in the Rescue Me series. Kally knows that Happily Ever After takes maintenance, so her couples don’t solve all their problems and disappear at “the end” of their Romance, but will continue to work on real issues in their relationships in later books in the series. Kally also loves showing how there is never anyone so wounded that he or she can’t find true love. Readers often write to tell her how the books have changed their lives or their perceptions of what matters in life.

Kally’s four e-book titles are available in three trade paperbacks (the first two books combined into one volume), as well. Next up will be the e-book edition of Somebody’s Angel, due out in September 2013.

Because so much of the above focuses on Master Adam, and that’s the first non-free book in the series that needs to be read in order (because Adam makes progress in his relationship in every book in the series), here’s more about Nobody’s Hero:

NOBODY’S HERO is the continuing romantic journey of Adam and Karla, which began in MASTERS AT ARMS and continued in NOBODY’S ANGEL, which ended in a dramatic cliffhanger that sets up the opening scene of NOBODY’S HERO.

Retired Marine Master Sergeant Adam Montague has battled through four combat zones, but now finds himself running from Karla Paxton, who has declared war on his heart. With a twenty-five-year age difference, he feels he should be her guardian and protector, not her lover. But Karla’s knack for turning up in his bed at inopportune times is killing his resolve to do the right thing. Karla isn’t a little girl anymore—something his body reminds him of every chance it gets.

But their age difference is only part of the problem. Fifty-year-old Adam has been a guardian and protector for lost and vulnerable souls most of his life, but a secret he has run from for more than three decades has kept him emotionally unable to admit he can love anyone. Will she be able to lower his guard long enough to break down the defenses around his heart and help him put the ghosts from his past to rest? In her all-out war to get Adam to surrender his heart, can the strong-willed Goth singer offer herself as his submissive—and at what cost to herself?

SPECIFIC ADULT CONTENT WARNING: This book contains very erotic scenes that include BDSM (bondage-discipline-domination-submission-sadism-masochism-master-slave)—but these ALWAYS will be safe, sane, and consensual (SSC) acts told in a more realistic approach to the BDSM genre. Includes rough sex, Shibari (rope bondage and suspension), anal play, cunnilingus, fellatio, flogging, nipple bondage and torture, sex toys, and intensely erotic “vanilla” sexual acts. Epic novel length of approximately 140,000 words.

For links to all of Kally’s books, available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Apple, Smashwords, and All Romance eBooks, go to http://kallypsomasters.blogspot.com/p/books-by-kallypso-masters.html.

If you’ve read the first four books and want to join Kally’s secret Facebook group Rescue Me Series Open Discussion, please send a friend request to Karla Montague and she will open the door for you, but you can only get there from here:  https://www.facebook.com/karla.montague.1. Must be 18 to join.

And if you’d like to find Rescue Me and Kallypso Masters merchandise, such as t-shirts and aprons inspired by a scene in Nobody’s Angel that read: “Master Marc can put me in culinary bondage anytime” OR a beaded evil stick similar to the one used in Nobody’s Perfect, as well as signed paperbacks, check out my Kally Swag Store. With each order, you will receive a bag filled with free swag items, as well, including a 3-inch pin-back button that reads “I’m a Masters Brat,” two purple pens, bookmarks, and trading cards. Kally ships internationally. To browse my shop, go to http://kallypsomasters.com/kally_swag.

Kally will give away one e-book in the series (the first two are free, so choose from Nobody’s Hero, Nobody’s Perfect, or the upcoming Somebody’s Angel) AND a culinary bondage t-shirt (sizes Small to 4XL avail.) or apron from her Kally Swag Store, plus the swag bag from the store mentioned above.

Disappointed with Love

Recently I discover a new TV series with a kick-ass female lead, a sexy love interest, and supernatural elements.  From the moment I started watching it, I was in heaven!  There is something almost magical about a book or show where the main character is compelling, draws you to them, and really makes you want to root for them.  This character did all these things, but what was more, watching the two main characters relationship develop was incredible.  They were sexy to a dangerous point, but they also had to put aside their issues to allow themselves to fall in love with each other.  I felt drawn into their relationship, and experienced so much excitement at the idea that the character I’d fallen in love with, had fallen in love too.  But just as everything seemed to come together for my very deserving character, the man she loves is ripped away from her in a way that stinks of permanence.

A shockingly familiar feeling hit me, reminding me of the first TV series I’d gone crazy over in my high school days.  It had also drawn me in with its passion, fantastical elements, and strong lovers, and it too had crushed me.  So, even though my husband begged me not to, I went online to investigate whether this new series would let me down too.  My husband said I’d ruin the show for myself, but I knew I’d regret putting more time into this show if the couple never got back together.  And unfortunately, it sounds like the producers of the show decided to go in a different direction.  Thus, killing any hope that these characters might have a happy ending.

I was disappointed to say the least.  How could these writers make me love this couple so much and then dash all my hopes for a happy ending?  But once I got over my disappointment, I also remembered my solution for this issue in high school: fan fiction.  It may sound silly, but it was such an important moment in my life when I realized that through my own writing I had the power to write life the way I wanted it.  It changed me from being just another person who enjoys a good story, to a person capable and willing to write my own story.

So even though I may no longer have a steamy new show to watch, I have something better, a reminder of why I love writing so much.  And what’s more, a reminder that in my own stories, the girl can always get her guy.

SHADOW’S SOUL, 2012 Shooting Star Paranormal Romance winner,  by Jami Gray…

ShadowsSoul_HR

Unable to stop she reached out to gently touch his clenched jaw. Just under the anger in his voice was the one emotion she thought she’d never hear from him, fear. “You have to be one of the most disciplined men I know, Gavin.”

“It may not be enough this time.” His voice was quiet, eerily empty.

She narrowed her eyes. “Bullshit.” The word was a whip. “I don’t believe that. It’s magic, no matter how it was created. You are Kyn. Not only are you Kyn, but you are a Wraith. You have fought worse things and walked away.”

“Yeah but those monsters didn’t live inside me.”

Her short laugh was sharp. “Think about it. As Wraiths we’re the bogeymen to all bad little Kyn. You think that monster came from Lawson’s little drug cocktail?” She leaned forward. “I hate to break it to you, but it was already there. It’s why you’re a Wraith. Don’t you understand? We were picked to be Wraiths because to hunt the monsters, you don’t send out hunters, you send out other monsters.”

The bitterness in her own words rang through the car’s interior. She defiantly held his narrow-eyed stare and folded her arms defensively across her chest as the windows around them began to fog over. Obviously Rio’s little digs about judges and jury had gotten under her skin more than she realized.

“I’m not a teenager,” he said, watching her. “I’m older and have a hell of a lot of practice with shields. You spent months at the mercy of twisted men. I spent a few hours. It was enough to do damage, but I’ve spent the last three months trying to come to terms with what’s been unlocked.

“Some days are easier than others. For the first couple of weeks, it was all I could do to keep sane. If it wasn’t for you and Cassandra, I’m not sure I would have been back.”

She looked away. “I didn’t do anything,” she muttered, fighting back the shame. She had wanted to see him, but her guilt at putting him in Lawson’s line of fire had held her back.

He grabbed her chin. “You survived, and I couldn’t do anything less.”

The intensity of his look had her tongue nervously wetting her lips. His thumb rasped against her lower lip, following the moist trail. The simple caress made her breath catch, and when his head lowered, she met him halfway.

The minute his lips touched hers, heat engulfed her. The whispers of doubt fled under the fire, and she gave in to the inevitable. He made her want things she hadn’t thought she’d ever get. And he made her believe.

His groan as her tongue teased his turned her blood to molten lava. Their rising passion drew her in and sucked her under. Tunneling her fingers through his hair, she reveled in the feel of the silky strands, using them to hold him close so she could plunder the heated depths of his mouth. The seatbelt was a minor inconvenience, holding her back from crawling closer.

His hands were busy as his talented mouth. They stroked over her neck and caressed downward until he could fill his palms with her breasts. Her shirt was a flimsy barrier to his sensual assault. Ripping his mouth away, he flicked his tongue to trace the cord in her throat. Her head fell back, giving him better access. He gently nipped her skin where neck and shoulder met, his stinging bite lost in her rising passion. Those clever fingers forged a fiery trail that left her breasts feeling full and heavy, causing a small whimper of need to escape her. Constrained by the seatbelt, she could do nothing but surrender to his touch.

With a wicked chuckle, he bent down and drew one tight nipple into his mouth, shirt and all. She was lost as her body rocked under his touch. His tongue curled over her, tugging her deeper into his mouth, as his hand plucked and teased her other breast. The feel of being restrained as he teased her was almost more than she could take.

The blast of a car horn shattered her haze of passion. “Gavin,” she breathed, her voice hoarse with need, as awareness of where they were flooded back.

Let me know if you enjoyed this small peek into the intriguing relationship of  Raine McCord and Gavin Durand. Leave your comment for a chance to win a $5 Amazon gift card! I’ll announce the winner on July 8th!

A Swamp Visit with #pararom author @LivRancourt and her new release…

Today began like any other day.  Hellhound greeted the heralding light of a new day with a rousing chorus of canine delight. The Prankster Duo is prepping for their summer of total dominion. The Knight is considering various siege targets.

And me?

I’m sneaking over to Snarky’s place because the talented and honored Dwarf Friend, Liv Rancourt, is stopping by. As a matter of fact, in apologies for sending buckets full of rain her way the other week, I invited her down to our sunnier part of the world to dry out and rediscover what the word ‘sky’ and ‘dry’ have in common.

It helps that Eerie and Mischievous managed to tick off the Voodoo Queen down south, because it’s been a little warmer than normal. So much so, even the moss between toes has dried out and Dreamer’s become a little perturbed at the beating her flowers have taken.  I think she sent a few air elementals southward to Queenie’s place to help her re-arrange her perspective.

Regardless, now that Snarky has set out some really cool pastries and Eerie’s coffee is scenting the air, it’s time to grill…<cough, cough>…ask Liv a few questions before we dive into her Paranormal Romance, FOREVER AND EVER, AMEN…

As children we tend to have an idea of what we want to be by the time we’re ten.  Before you decided to pursue the artistic dream of being a writer, what did you want to be and why?

The thing is, before I was ten I knew I wanted to be a writer, though by the time high school rolled around, I’d kind of forgotten. Writing was cool, singing was cool, but the future? Who knew?

One of my college roommates was a nurse, and I figured there was NO WAY I was smart enough to do that. Then I got into nursing school, and figured there was NO WAY I could handle the responsibility of the job.

Heh.

It was only after twenty-some years of nursing that I figured if I was ever going to do that writing thing, I better get on it. So now you know that my life was a clueless stumble from point A to point B – though I will say I’m pretty happy with where I am now.

-Isn’t that how we all get to where we’re going? Trodding the straight and narrow is so boring. At least when you stumble, exciting things happen…besides smashing face first into the ground!

Personally, I tend to be a bit on the introverted side so the thought of being in the actual presence of one of my favorite writers makes my heart race, my knees shake and tangles my tongue (yes classic fan girl behavior).  Who could reduce you to such a level and how do you imagine your initial meeting?

Neil Gaiman. OMG just saying his name …. I imagine if I ever met him, there’d be lots of silence with me sitting awkwardly, unable to connect my brain to any higher verbal functions, and him sitting awkwardly, wondering why this relatively normal woman has turned into a gibbering zombie.

-But you’d be such an attractive zombie, I’m sure he’d overlook the gibbering thing…

Growing up, what was your favorite book, comic, game or movie and did you create a character/player that might resemble you?

For a while I was the best friend Laura Ingalls never had, and then I lived in the attic next door to Sara Crewe (A Little Princess). I solved mysteries with Nancy, and survived the Crimean War with Florence Nightingale. So yeah, I pretty much plunked myself into just about every book I read. Actually, I kind of still do…

-Shhh! I won’t tell if you won’t…

It’ s all about the characters. If I feel like something’s not working, I break out the notebook, grab my pencil (because pens make me crazy) and start writing from the POV of whichever character’s most involved in the situation that’s giving me trouble. Sometimes it’s more than one character, but either way, it helps to refresh my memory of who each person is and how they’d respond to things.

If that doesn’t work, I step away from the piece for a while and work on something else. Taking the dog for a walk can help, too, as can sleeping on it. Often when I wake up in the morning, I find yesterday’s plot macramé has unraveled itself nicely.

-I’m with you. Sometimes I’ll write from a secondary character’s POV just to figure out where in the hell are we going with this…

What is the best advice you can share with others?

My standard answer to this question is: “WRITE”. But I’m going to vary that a little. Write some, share what you’ve written and ask for feedback, and write some more. Get yourself a couple good books, like “Goal, Motivation & Conflict” by Debra Dixon, or “Save The Cat” by Blake Snyder. Write some more. Sign up for a class – there are a bazillion on-line classes so you can work from home and on your own schedule. Write some more.

These steps can occur in any order you choose. The important thing is to learn the craft and to  get feedback. Oh, and write some more.

-And when all else fails, WRITE!

Now it’s time for quick fire round (and yes, I have been watching way too much Top Chef!)

Blades, guns, fists or feet?

Fangs. It’s all about the vampires, baby.

-As long as they don’t sparkle, I’m good…

Favorite Fairy Tale of all time?

Does “The Lord Of The Rings” count? On their own, fairytales are a little…basic. I’d rather read a book that does a good job repurposing several to create something new.

-LOTR works, and because we love you, we’ll count it as a fairytale!

Three titles and their authors sitting on your nightstand/bookcase/table/floor waiting to be read?

“Breathing His Air” by Debra Kayn (Crimson Romance), “Tarnished” by Karina Cooper, “Winter Knights” by Harper Frost, “Winterblaze” by Kristen Callihan, “The Chalice” by Nancy Bilyeau…oh, you said just three, right. Oops.

-I’ve yet to find a writer that can stop at three…

Greatest one liner of all time?

Don’t know about “all time”, but right now my favorite one-liner happens in my current WIP (working title King Stud). The main character Danielle is exasperated with her best friend’s younger brother, who’s a carpenter. He tells her there’s so much original woodwork in the house she inherited it’s making his dick hard. She says, “You’re like twenty five years old. Your dick gets hard when the wind blows.”

And he says, “Twenty four, and…well…”

He’s pretty confident for a youngster.

 -*snort, giggle*  niceeee…….

Sarcastic witticism, Southern sweetness or Geeky disdain?

Sarcasm FTW!

-and this is why we’re friends….

Strangest item currently taking up space in your writing cave?

I am the Queen of Clutter, and my “writing cave” is the dining room table. Someone has left a beret on the table. I don’t know who, and I don’t know why. I’m not writing about France or anything. Maybe I should be…

-Or maybe someone should take you to France? *waggles eyebrow*

Favorite supernatural creature?

Vampires. But you knew that.  😉

-*big grin*

Big love to Liv for braving our wilds once more and bringing such a great title with her!

Want to spice up your reading list this summer? Check out Liv’s latest release and must have: FOREVER AND EVER, AMEN

Molly, a forty-something single mom, tangles with the wrong guy and gets a hell of a hickey. That blotch is really a demon’s mark, and she’ll have to face the three things that scare her most to get rid of it. First, Molly loses her job and then she has a near-sex experience with her philandering, not-quite-ex-husband. Worst of all, she has to sit by a hospital bed, wondering if her son is ever going to wake up.

The Powers That Be assign Cass to help her. He’s an angel who’s trying to earn a seat in the celestial choir by helping out a human in need. Vanquishing the demon would be his ticket up, but only if he plays by the rules. He’ll never earn his wings if he loses his heart to the lovely Molly. But she has even bigger things to worry about. She stands to lose her soul.

A desperate mother…

A Mexican drug lord…

A dangerous match.

A year after a barbaric childbirth, complete with a near-death experience and an encounter with her guardian angel, Angie Edmonds is just happy she and her son, Jake, are alive. She’s finally in a good place: clean, sober, and employed as a defense attorney. But at the end of a long work day, she finds herself in a parent’s worst nightmare: Jake has been kidnapped and taken across the Mexican border by a cult leader who believes the child is the “Chosen One.”

Stymied by the US and Mexican legal systems, Angie is forced to ask the head of a Mexican crime syndicate for help. Much to her chagrin, she must work with Alejandro Torres, a dangerously attractive criminal and the drug lord’s right-hand man. Little does she know Alejandro is an undercover federal agent, equally terrified of blowing his cover—and falling in love with her.

Excerpt:

“Who are you? Who is that giant? What did you say to him?”

The pony-tailed man flashed a grin, the smile reaching his sky-blue colored eyes, giving him an appealing boyish look. “The big guy’s name is Tio. I told Tio to truss Raul up like the pig he is and to bring him to Isabel Ramirez. She’ll know exactly what to do with him.”

“Who are you?”

The movie-star-handsome man stopped, bent down until he was eye-to-eye with Angie.

“I found your passport tossed onto Raul’s desk, Angela Edmonds from the U.S. of A. I like that name. You look like an angel.”

She shook her head and the street twirled. “I’m no angel.” She steadied herself on his well muscled, naked arm. Rather than creeping her out, the skin on skin contact with her rescuer reassured her that he was a real human and not an angel conjured up in fevered religious delusion and desperation. “You sound like an American. You haven’t answered my question. What’s your name?”

“Torres.” Still holding her ID, he strode to the driver’s side of the car, hopped in and flashed a dazzling grin. “You could call me your hero because I’m taking you to see the woman who can help you find your son. My name is Alejandro Espinosa Santoyo Torres. But most people just call me Alejandro.”

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

SBB_Sandman Bookstore Headshot 3After working in health care delivery for years, Sharon Buchbinder became an association executive, a health care researcher, and an academic in higher education. She had it all–a terrific, supportive husband, an amazing son and a wonderful job. But that itch to write (some call it an obsession) kept beckoning her to “come on back” to writing fiction. When not attempting to make students, colleagues, and babies laugh, she can be found herding cats, waiting on a large gray dog, fishing, dining with good friends, or writing. The Next Big Thing…

I’ve been tagged by Sandy Wright for The Next Big Thing Blog Hop, where new releases and new authors get highlighted. Sandy’s SONG OF THE ANCIENTS, is a Paranormal Suspense currently making the rounds in finding a publishing home.  Feel free to check out her blog at www.writersandy.com for all the nifty details on her first book.

So since I’m it, let’s get to it!

  • What’s the title/working title of your latest book?

For those that are following, we’ll do SHADOW’S MOON, because I’m keeping my current WIP under wraps for a bit.

  • Where did the idea for the book come from?

This will be the third in the Kyn Kronicles, but this time I decided to leave Raine and Gavin alone to take advantage of some downtime.  Instead I got caught up in Xander and Warrick’s relationship. I’ve always loved the concept of magic and the supernatural existing alongside reality, so the world I created has some dark corners that you don’t want to face without a sharp, pointy object. For SHADOW’S MOON, I wanted to explore the relationship between the most dominant male wolf in the Northwest and his top female enforcer, Xander.  What happens when two strong personalities meet? Do they bend, break or create something new? SHADOW’S MOON continues the twists and turns of the Kyn universe, but also allows the readers a chance to see the world through the eyes of the Shifter House.  Plus the sparks from Xander and Warrick were a blast to maneuver through.

  • What genre does your book fall under?

Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy

  • What’s a one sentence synopsis for your book?

As the Northwest Alpha wolf, compromise isn’t in Warrick Vidis’s vocabulary, but when his reluctant mate, Xander Cade, refuses to leave off the hunt for the one threatening their pack, will he be able to bend before they both break?

  •  How long did it take to write the first draft of the manuscript?

It took me about 4 1/2 to 5 months to get through the first draft.  Then another month or so to fine tune it.

  • Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

Currently it is under consideration by a handful of publishing houses/agencies, so fingers crossed one of them picks it up.

  • What other books would you compare this book to in your genre?

Hmmm…think Ilona Andrew’s Kate Daniels series or Patricia Briggs’s Mercy Thompson or Alpha and Omega series.

Since I like to share the spotlight, here are my “MUST READ” new authors! Swing on over and check them out!
