Now that school is back in full swing, it’s almost easier to write than during my vacation. I think it’s all about the mindset – “it’s time to play” and “it’s time to work.” Vacation from school means play. School means work time. So if I write more frequently during school, does that mean I consider writing work? What does that say about me enjoying my writing?
I bet there’s quite a few writers out there who find it hard to distinguish between writing as work and writing as fun. It IS fun, but also it takes a lot of effort and will to get things done. I think I enjoy writing more not always when I’m in the deep, dark mire of my own mind, but rather that accomplished feeling I get when I’m done. Holding true to the idea of work, if work = not fun but, the rewards of work = positive emotions, then work = not a bad thing. Which means writing isn’t not fun!
Someone should check my math, but I’m pretty sure that’s how I feel.
